EFFIGIES release date: Winter 2025
We want to welcome all to our "digital presence". As aspiring authors in the modern age it is an unfortunate fact of life that one simply can not be as offline as one might prefer. That said, though the thought of marketing ourselves sounds like a hidden tenth layer of hell, we actually look forward to the opportunity to build a community of like-minded readers and writers. To that end, this site will serve as a hub for musings, reviews, and all future book news.
The more ephemeral of this writing duo is inspired by a love of the natural work, literature, poetry, and classical music composition. She delights by taking in a subject of interest and weaving its disparate parts into a moving and engaging story. Linguistics have proven a particularly absorbing area of study, resulting in the mingling of conlangs (constructed languages) and invented scripts you will find within our works. What cannot be said in words finds its way in via art. Cartography, as well, proved a wonderful outlet for her artistic talents and if beautiful fantasy maps are to your, no doubt excellent taste, then keep your eyes here for the veritable feast to come. Beyond her other fascinations; she desires most to bring classical prose back into modern writing.
As the more pedestrian of the writer’s couplet, my inexorable journey toward wordcraft began at the age of seven when my father set me loose into a bookstore to pick “any one book.” I returned with Brian Jaques Redwall, because what else but the book with the sword-wielding mouse, thus my fate was sealed. From those gentle rolling hills I dove ever deeper through imaginary trees and into new, fantastical, worlds. Salvatore and Lackey, Hickman and Pratchett. From the high-minded airs of Tolkien to the honest grit and mud of Sapkowski. I absorbed it all and, along the way, discovered new mediums for the sharing of stories. Long evenings rolling dice with friends, and even longer nights preparing to do the same. I thought often of crafting such tales with the power to delight others as I myself had been, but surely, I reasoned, writing was beyond me. Until, at last, I met someone who set my eyes back upon those forgotten dreams and returned my heart to the page. And that is how I write, heart first. With the hopes that the joy I find in crafting stories might spark the imagination to burn more brightly and bring a little warmth to the world.
